Richard LaCamera Obituary

Obituary of Richard LaCamera
Richard Joseph LaCamera, age 68, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Loving husband to Marie for 40 years and devoted father to Jeremy and Jason. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri but grew up in San Mateo, California. He attended San Diego State University and UC Davis, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Renewable Natural Resources. He worked as a hydrologist for US Geological Survey for nearly 30 years. He is survived by two older brothers - Mark LaCamera of Burbank, California and John LaCamera of Meridian, Idaho.
Fondest memories include him playing in the pool with the boys when they were young and several of their neighborhood friends. He used to make the most awesome spaghetti sauce. And he always remembered things like birthdays and anniversaries with cards he illustrated by hand. He was a pioneer of the studies of Yucca Mountain which contributed to the security we have today in the Las Vegas Valley. His LP record collection includes early Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Grateful Dead. We will always miss his good humor, sharp acumen, shrewd chess skills, and robust spirit.

Dick and I were colleagues with the USGS in Las Vegas for over 25 years. We collaborated on several large and important projects in southern Nevada that were career defining. In everything he did, Dick was one of my smartest and most dedicated friends that I ever had the privilege to know. We enjoyed many a half-pound burger during our frequent lunches together. I share in the family's grief with his passing. I will truly miss him.
