A funeral service to celebrate Richard's life will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at First Baptist Church of Logansport. Interment will be held at O. E. Price Memorial Park immediately after the service.
Richard K. Land, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, with his stepdaughters by his side.
Richard was born on June 10, 1942, to Murris and Everlee (Clinton) Land in Springhill, LA. Later the family made their move to Homer, LA when he was only five years old. At the ripe age of 12, he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart and lived his life accordingly.
Richard graduated from Homer High School in 1960. He went to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA where he earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree. He was hired as an Industrial Arts Shop teacher at Logansport High School and taught there for many years. He was an elected member of the school board for 12 years, serving as Supervisor of Maintenance for Desoto Parish.
Richard married Rose Camp Land in 1964, and they were married for 35 years until her passing. He married Jo Ellen Presley Land in October of 2000, and they were married for 22 years before her passing in August of 2023.
Over the years Richard devoted his time and skills to many organizations in the community. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Logansport, serving as a deacon and a men's Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Louisiana Baptists Mission Builders and the Campers on Mission organization. After retirement, he was self-employed, opening his own HVAC company, Land's Air Conditioning and Heating.
He loved hunting in Brackettville, TX, and taking the RV to Hot Springs and Eureka Springs. He would tell anyone who listened about the Holy Land Tour in Eureka Springs.
Richard loved to help people in any way he could, always giving advice or a helping hand. His knowledge, skills, and work ethic were admirable. He will be missed dearly.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Jane Land; wife, Rose Camp Land; and wife, Jo Ellen Land.
He was survived by his daughter, Tracy; brother, Ronnie Land, and wife, Debra Pogue Land; many nieces, and nephews. Many thanks to his stepdaughters Rhonda Lopez and Kelly Best who cared for him throughout the years, especially when he fell ill.
Pallbearers: Brandon Bradford, Ryan Best, Tyler Best, James Williams, III, Mark Pierce and David Graves.
Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Best.
Also, a special thanks to The Bloom of Bossier City and The Heart of Hospice for their care and support. The family will forever be grateful to Chaplain Don Francis for the compassion he showed Richard and his family in these difficult times.
