Richard E. “Eddie” Lewis passed away on Oct. 4, 2025 at the age of 93 in Little Rock, AR. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. W. F. Lewis and Mrs. Jessie M. (Laymon) Lewis of Little Rock. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jacqueline Massery Lewis, three sons: Mike and his wife Ellen, of Little Rock; Thomas of Savannah, Georgia; Donald and his wife, Deb of Conway, AR; five grandchildren: Ryan Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Mathew Lewis, Cooper Lewis and Katie Lovesee; and five great-grandchildren.
Eddie graduated from Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock and attended Little Rock Junior College (UALR). He was a member of Holy Souls Catholic Church, Senior Saints of Conway, and the Cursillo Movement. In 1950, joined the Marine Corps and served two years in the Korean conflict, and was awarded the Korean War Medal with one Silver Star, the Presidential Unit Citation, The Korean Presidential Unit Citation, as well as other military awards for his outstanding service. While in the Marine Reserve unit, he served during the Viet Nam era. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Marines with the rank of CW04 and became an active member of the Marine Corps League of Conway. Upon retiring from the Arkansas Gazette’s advertising department, he and Jackie traveled as “full-timers” in their motor home for the next six years, returning to Arkansas to settle down.
A celebration of Eddie’s life will be held at a later date.
