Richard Levi “Dick” Livengood, 94, of Sioux City, IA peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Dick, the son of Frank and Edna Livengood, was born in Castana, IA on August 31, 1931. The family moved to the Leeds area in Sioux City and then to Wakefield, NE before settling in Whiting, IA where Dick graduated from Whiting High School.
After graduation, he worked on a farm for Pip Neldeberg and joined the National Guard. He later joined the US Air Force and served a year in the Pacific on Johnston Island. On March 8, 1952, he married Berniece Cain, in Okmulgee, OK. After being sent to Ft. Benning, GA, and later to Albany, GA, he was discharged in 1955. At home, he worked on a farm and at the Safeway Grocery Store in Onawa. He moved to Salix, IA and worked at the Commissary on the Sioux City, IA air base. Later, he worked at the elevator in Salix, IA before getting a job with the Iowa State Highway in maintenance. Transitioning to the Dept. of Transportation for 29 years until retirement. After retirement he helped his friend Jody Yandell grow vegetables and sell them at the farmers market. He and Berniece spent their winters in Mercedes, Tx. They did a lot of traveling. He loved to play games and golfing. Cards were his favorite, and he played every Thursday with his card buddies.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Berniece of 73 years, his two daughters: Debra Garretson of Meridian, ID and Pam (Dave) Hunwardsen of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Jason (Courtney) Anderson of Meridian, ID and Brenda Anderson of Sioux City, IA; grandson-in-law, Josh Moore of Alton, IA; great grandchildren: Raileigh Edwards of Hubbard, NE, Karlee Moore of Milford, IA, Jaci Anderson of Meridian, ID and Reece Barker of Dakota Dunes, SD; sisters: Ann Orinko of Sheffield, PA and Virginia Black of Auburn, WA. Left to cherish his memory are many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Sheri Moore; and siblings: Veryl Livengood, Betty Crosgrove, Bob Livengood, and Nancy Breazeale.
According to his wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
