Richard "Rich" Allen Long, 63, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, June 20, 2025, at his home in
Mountain Home, AR.
Rich, lovingly known as "Poonsckie", was born on February 8,1962, in San Francisco, California to Robert and Geneva (Tate) Long. During his high school years, he was welcomed into the home of Alan and Trudy Chase, who provided him with the love and support he needed. He graduated from Union High School in 1980 and soon after joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a Military Police Officer. Rich earned several honors, including Sharpshooter, M-16 Rifle Marksman, Hand Grenade Sharpshooter,.45 Caliber Pistol Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon. He was stationed with the 164th Military Police Company at the Miesau Army Depot in the Federal Republic of Germany before receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Rich spent his formative years in Lake Tahoe, NV, where he attended Western Nevada Community College. He was employed as a Slot Technician at several casinos and later became a Casino Service Technician III, a role he held in a leadership capacity at International Game Technology (IGT). In 2006, he transitioned to the Oregon State Lottery, where he served as a Field Service Representative for 16 years.
On March 7, 2007, Rich met his life partner, Sally J. Studnar. They were married on June 11, 2016, in Aurora, Oregon. In January 2022, the couple relocated to Mountain Home, Sally's hometown. Later that year, Rich became a business owner, opening Beer Belly's Bar and Grill with Sally, his son, and daughter-in-law. He retired in October 2023 to enjoy more time with his passions.
Rich loved the outdoors, especially hiking, golfing, and hunting, and cherished traveling with Sally. He was an avid craft beer enthusiast and home brewer, a proud member of the Twin Lakes Home Brewers Club. Some of his happiest moments were spent exploring new breweries with his best friend, Brad Andres. Rich was also an avid reader, with a deep knowledge of history, religion, and politics.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Studnar-Long of
Mountain Home, AR; daughter, Jenifer (Jen) Walrath-McAffee of Kalispell, MT; son, Tony (Jessi) Walrath of
Mountain Home, AR; and grandchildren, Malia, Kiana, Ikaika, and Jenna Walrath. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Bobby (Sue) Studnar and Jared (Trina) Studnar; sister-in-law Karen Truell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Additional family includes his Sacramento family-Brad (Tammie) Andres; niece Carrie Weibel; and triplet nephews Tyler, Zach, and Derick Andres-as well as his biological brother, Rob; sister, Darlene; step-sister Amanda (Mike) Fithian; and step-brother Johnathan (Elizabeth) Long, both of Grants Pass, OR; along with several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lloyd Long.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 beginning at 2 p.m. at 407 Highridge Court,
Mountain Home, AR 72653. Military honors will be presented at 2 p.m. with beer, brats and fellowship to follow. A private burial will take place later in Lake Tahoe. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to plant a tree in Rich's memory to honor his love of nature and the great outdoors.
