Richard J. Lucas Sr, 75, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in his sleep. He
was at home and quietly moved on.
Richard was quick with a smile and a hug and never met anyone that didn't want to be
his friend within the first few minutes of meeting him. An optimist to the end that always
looked for the best in people. He had a long list of honest and hard working friends that
reflected who he was. He appreciated all of his friends and spoke of them often.
He spent countless hours volunteering at Resurrection Church, Holy Family, Tiger
A.C.,(among others) and worked more bingos than there are numbers on a bingo card.
If you have visited a Catholic picnic anytime in the last 35 years on or around Poplar
Level Road then you most likely have enjoyed a fish sandwich prepared by him or drank
a beer poured by him. The thing is, if he could have done more, he would have.
He was a member of the Amvets Post 61 and the Eagles Men's Club that is part of St.
Ignatius. He spent a lot of time trying to do something to make the world a better place.
Richard loved a good poker game and loved nothing more than to spend time with his
friends playing a few hands of poker. We that knew him can all imagine him in heaven
now trying to get a game started.
Survivors include his two sons: Rick and Tony; his grandson: Cody Schmidt: his sister:
Betty Zinsious. He had more friends than can be listed. He truly appreciated all of
friends and family. He was a good man and a good Dad. He will be missed.
Visitation will be held on June 9th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. His funeral service will be
held at Holy Family Church, Saturday at 10:00 AM. After the ceremony at St. Michaels Cemetery, there will
be lunch served at Holy Family for all to attend and celebrate a life well led.
