Richard W. MacMartin
May 12, 1949 – November 3, 2025
Richard W. MacMartin, age 76, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1949, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, to the late Douglas and Vivian MacMartin.
A lifelong resident of Richmond, Richard was a devoted father, grandfather, friend, and community member. He leaves behind his beloved twin children, Alisha MacMartin and Alan MacMartin, and his two cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Elliana MacMartin, who were the light of his life.
Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged. His service reflected his lifelong dedication, loyalty, and integrity-qualities he carried throughout every aspect of his life.
He owned and operated a local business for 33 years and was deeply involved in the Richmond community, especially in local athletics. Richard coached soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball for many years and took great joy in umpiring baseball games at all levels.
A proud Detroit Lions season ticket holder for 48 years, Richard endured many losing seasons-always with humor and loyalty (insert sad face). He was known for his big heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his unmistakable sense of humor. His famous one-liners-repeated until everyone had heard them at least once-were part of his charm. Whether corny or clever, they always brought smiles and laughter, especially when he'd deliver one and walk away grinning.
In retirement, Richard enjoyed a simple, content life. He spent many afternoons having lunch with his closest friends-Tom, Gary, and Mark D.-where the conversation was always about sports and never politics. Even as his health declined in later years, his passion for life and love of sports never wavered.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 16th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the American Legion, 34330 Bordman Rd, Memphis, MI 48041.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jowett Funeral Home, New Haven.
