I am very sorry to learn about Dick's passing. I met him only 10 years ago while biking with some OSC friends. I quickly saw what a character he was and how he interacted with all the friends around him. He was very funny yet kept us all on out toes. Within a couple years i understood the big heart he had. If anyone had a flat tire or mechanical problems while on a ride, he'd be the first to double-back to help them. Not everyone saw him that way, but I enjoyed his company.
My favorite story of Dick. My wife and I were at the State Fair and happened to run into him. My wife had never met him and said "you must be Dirty Dick." We all laughed as that was his nickname, and he clearly enjoyed her remark. He later would recount that incident to others and repeat what she said, and how he was "most insulted." Typical funny wisecrack. A great guy.
