Richard Joseph "Poppy" Mayeux

Richard "Poppy" Mayeux, 89, died May 14, 2025, at his home in Fountain Hills, Az. He was born in 1936 in New Iberia, Louisiana, the son of Hazel and Sydney Mayeux. Richard graduated in 1958 from LSU (Lafayette) in accounting, then joined the Infantry Army and served during the Korean War. He later worked for the Army as an auditor in multiple sites in Ohio, Utah, Louisiana and Florida. He left the Army to work at National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda MD as an auditor for Cancer Research budgets.
Richard and his wife Rita moved to AZ from MD in 1991.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife Rita Mayeux last August.
He is survived by his children: Michele (daughter), Jeanne (daughter) and Brian (son), Steve (Son-in-law), Maria (daughter in-law),grandchildren: Gemma, Heather, Ilene, Bradley, Sarah, Emma and Casey, Grandson in-laws: Carlos, Eric, Dean and Rob. Great grandchildren: Cody, Joshua, Madison, Braxton, Constantine, Emily, and Sophia
Richard enjoyed good food with his family, watching his grandchildren playing sports, watching football, and basketball and playing blackjack at the casinos.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday May 18, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
