Richard James Montoya Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard James Montoya Jr., age 65, of Denver, Colorado, who passed away on February 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Richard was born in Denver in 1961 to Richard Montoya Sr. and Wilma Montoya. He was the oldest brother to Timothy Montoya and beloved younger sister Nancy Montoya, a role he carried with quiet strength, loyalty, and love throughout his life.

A devoted and loving father, Richard was incredibly proud of his two daughters, Candice Arellano and Nicole Dimas. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to his three cherished grandchildren-Cassandra Arellano, Lillian Arellano, and Joaquin Dimas-who brought endless laughter, light, and happiness into his life.

Richard shared 45 beautiful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Charlene Montoya. Together, they built a life rooted in commitment, hard work, and family. Richard was a true family man-steadfast, dependable, and always willing to put others first.

He loved the outdoors, especially camping, boating and fishing, and enjoyed traveling with Charlene to memorable destinations including Spain, Portugal, Rome, Florence, and Hawaii. Richard had a passion for cars and took great pride in celebrating the holidays. Halloween and Christmas were especially special, with elaborate yard decorations most famously, Santa perched proudly on the roof.

Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous heart, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence, laughter, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed, but his legacy lives on through those who loved him most.

He will forever remain in our hearts.
