Richard Morrissey Obituary

Richard Charles Morrissey, 88, of Avon, beloved husband of the late Marie (Spada), passed away peacefully Friday, September 22, 2023. Born on October 21, 1934, in Worcester, MA, son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Daw) Morrissey, Dick attended Worcester schools, excelled in various sports, graduated from Worcester Academy, and earned his BA from Clark University. Dick served in the US Army during the Korean War and then started his professional career as a credit manager for Chrysler. Soon after, he began his long and illustrious sales career with Allstate Insurance in 1966. He rose and served in many executive-level positions before retiring in 1995 as Regional Vice President for the New England region. Afterward, Dick continued to pursue his passion for helping others by becoming a reverse mortgage officer. An avid golfer, Dick waited until age eighty to proudly record his first and only hole-in-one. He enjoyed reading and traveling, particularly to Barbados, St. Maarten, and Saratoga Racetrack and was a self-taught cook and accomplished grill master. Volunteering at the US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Club was a highlight of Dick's many endeavors. Dick was an enthusiastic fan of the New York Giants, the Boston Red Sox, and The New York Post. He leaves his children Jane F. Morrissey and her wife Dawn, Richard C. Morrissey, Jr., Brian P. Morrissey and his wife Heidi, Dennis M. Morrissey, and Beth A. Morrissey; a sister Gail Ivers and her husband James; and grandchildren Ellie, Kevin, Megan, and Molly Morrissey. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Morrissey, Jr., and Harry Morrissey, and his first wife, Ann (Reidy) Morrissey. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11 AM directly at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. His family will greet guests in the gathering room following Mass. Burial will be private. Contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or United Cerebral Palsy. Dick's family would like to sincerely thank all the medical professionals, including those at Hartford Hospital and Hospice, for their impeccable care and the Veterans Administration for their supportive guidance and resources. Dick blessed all who knew him with many a great story and indelible memories that will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Dad, and Godspeed. You are already deeply missed. I just learned that Dick passed away. He was my manager for several years at Allstate. I so enjoyed working with Dick and the many good times we had playing golf and having a few beers after work. He would always say to me, "keep the lead and hold it!" He will always be missed but never forgotten.

Dick hired me at Allstate in 1978! He was always admired by the agents and managers that worked with him and for him. Always the gentleman, Mr. Morrissey was a class act and true professional leader.

I met Dick Morrissey about ten years ago on the golf course and then was lucky enough to play with him a lot many more years. He was always happy, upbeat and fun to play with and was a true Gentleman of the old school. When you played with Dick the day was going to be top notch no matter how bad the golf. I was very fortunate to know him--- just a GREAT GUY!!!

I will miss him!!!

I knew Richard as a fellow golfer at Farmington Woods golf club. He always greeted me with a huge smile and good wishes for a great round. I am a friend of his son Dennis so I always called him dad. A name I use sparingly. Richard was a great father, friend and human being. He will be missed by all. Terry McNamara
