So many fond memories of the Newell family....Gull Lake....Eastover Ct.....and of course Mr. and Mrs. Newell. Condolences to the Pris, Liz and Sarah. Your folks were wonderful to myself and Cathy and we have often spoken of the great times our families spent with each other during our childhoods.

Mr. Newell was one of a kind....I had to be on my game when ever I was around him as I was going to be quizzed on Willie Horton´s Batting Average or how many wins Mickey Lolich had last season and boy did I not want to disappoint.

I went back to a meeting in Battle Creek for Kelloggs (yep that Kelloggs) and contacted Mr and Mrs Newell if I could come see them as I had a free afternoon. Got to go back to that lake house and it was like stepping back in time for me and I could not have had a nicer time visiting there.....such good memories. Mrs Newell even had a tin of popcorn for me :-)

Mr. Newell´s passing is bittersweet....what a great life lived but we will all miss him. I spoke to him soon after my Dad passed and he could not have been nicer to me....a special man. Rest In Peace.

Such fun memories growing up on Eastover Ct.! Mr. Newell ( you all called him Father ) was the fun dad whose attention and laugh I loved and remember very fondly. He took us on top down rides in his red convertible VW and fun, long bike rides- probably even played 4 square with us. I was lucky enough to spend some time on Gull Lake the summer that a new baby brother or sister was expected later that year. Liz and I were about 10 years old - we swam, sailed and climbed on the rafters in the summer home. Both of your parents were so great keeping us fed and entertained playing bookshelf games and enjoying the Michigan summer. Our paths took such different directions after your family moved away from Eastover. I was so very grateful to see both of your parents at my mothers burial at Cave Hill in February or 2012. I am very sorry I was not at either memorial and very sorry for your recent loss of both.

Love to the Newell Family ...
In 1960 we moved from Pennsylvania after law school at U Va for Wes to start to practice at Ogden, Robertson & Marshall. We knew no one in Louisville which was not so hard for Wes who went to work every day at the firm but I perhaps had a bit more anxiety. Short-lived, of course, because the Newells to the rescue!!! Fantastic, welcoming friends from the start who made Kentucky feel like home and became appreciated and loved friends forever. Both Sarah and Rick and their girls are part of so many happy memories and I and my family have been blessed with their friendship for all these years. I don't think I ever missed a Heffalump game and trips to Gull Lake are fond memories. In October '67 I recall that Wes was out of town and the baby was on her way -- would he be back in time? No worries, Rick and Paul O'Brien were on the spot ready to take me if needed. Dear Newell family, I am so thankful to have had Sarah and Rick in my life. They were special as I am sure you know. My heart is with you. Love, Marcia

Dear Pres, Liz and Sarah

I met Rick in 1961 through Wesley Adams, who lived in the same 4plex apartment building as Mary Jean and I did. We quickly became good friends and remained so for 61 years. We played softball together, squash at the Pendenis Club, occasional tennis at those courts in Crescent Hill. For several years Mary Jean and I had season tickets with your folks for Actors Theatre. So many dinners together.

Rick wss such a kind, "gentle" person. I never heard him say a negative word about anyone. He was simply one of the nicest people I have ever known.

When I learned he had passed, a lifelong string of memories flooded through my mind. I wept at the loss of such a dear friend.

Dear Priscilla, Elisabeth, Sarah, and family,
My heart goes out to you for your loss of your most awesome dad. How grateful I am to have known him, and your dear mom and ultimately you. We shared so many conversations around the table - not literally, but subjects that hold us all together - food, family & friends (and the rest comes naturally). Rick was a genuinely unique and kind person, who I learned from by listening and observing, and will remember him forever.
Thank you for including; ..sipping bourbon, Detroit Tigers, peacefully on the porch. It was so Rick.
Love to you all, Lin.

Former law partner who learned a lot from Rick and who enjoyed practicing law with him. I also enjoyed time with him away from the office. A grrat guy.

First met Rick playing softball with ET and others. Then for social hour with the Judge, Booboo and others. Became a member of the Beavers dinner group. Gull Lake cottage was a stop on our way up to northwest Michigan for a few summers. Rick and Sarah were always very gracious and welcoming to our family.
Considering myself a friend of Rick's is something I will always be proud of. He set a very good example for me and others of how a gentleman should conduct himself.
