I knew Dick from the OLLI classses at Northwestern. There were three successive political discussion classes: Point of View, New York Times Week in Review, and a class that started with Presidential Campaigns, the eletion of Barack Obama, his First Hundred Days, and on till today as Washington Week. We bit out nails evey week till the Affordable Care Act was passed. He was one of the smartest and nicest men I have ever known.

I was a Republican; he was a Democrat- I voted for him because he was a man of principles. I also remember an indoor miniature golf party where our bathtub was the "water hole". Watching Dick squat under the ceiling to hit the little chip was a hoot.

My husband, Scotty Wood, and I enjoyed many great times together at our mutual golf course, Conway Farms in Lake Forest. Dick was a man of great ethics and character. He was always jolly and positive and kind. We don't find these characteristics in many today. He was a treasure and we miss him.

I didn´t personally know Richard, but frequently walked the Gillson Park Beach path noticing all the memorial tree plantings along the way, especially one in memory of his first wife. And familiar with his name because my cousin, Aldo DeAngelis, ran against Richard for Cook County Board President. Many years later, Maureen Mohling, an amazing woman and I´m sure an equally outstanding sister to Dick; would bring me into the WINNETKA real estate office she managed! My heart goes out MOM for this loss she shares with Richard´s immediate family. My sincerest condolences to one and all...a life well lived. Denise Kellar
