Richard Dale Phillips passed on January 29, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born on January 21, 1947, in Rockford, Illinois to parents Stanley and Agnes Phillips. Upon graduation from Bellarmine University with a degree in accounting, he married his first wife, Marilyn Martin. His time spent in Louisville left him with a lifelong love of racing and all things equestrian. After time spent at Continental Insurance and E.J. McGrath, he would go on to found his own company, Energy Equine Insurance, which he would operate with distinction for 32 years. In 1996, he would go on to partner with this wife, Rosemary, as co-owners. Rick treasured his time in equine insurance and the many fine people he met. At his Derby parties, he entertained such personalities as: Liz Taylor, Willie Shoemaker, Stan Musial, and George Steinbrenner. He was best remembered for his kindness, willingness to listen, and reliability as a friend.
Rick is survived by: his wife, Rosemary Phillips; his son, Marc Phillips; his daughter in law, Erica Phillips; his granddaughter, Cecilia; stepchildren Laura Walters and Tim Sharpe; and grandchildren: Avery, Will, Jordan, Tessa, and Kendall.
Visitation will be February 24 from 4-7 PM at Ratterman Brothers' Funeral Home at 12900 Shelbyville Rd Louisville, Ky, 40243. Mass will be held February 25 at 11 AM at Epiphany Catholic Church at 914 Old Harrod's Creek Rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Old Friends Retirement Farm, in support of retired thoroughbred horses (1841 Payne's Depot Rd. Georgetown, Ky. 40324 502-863-1775).

Will never forget the friendship and love of life Rick and you enjoyed. Was so lucky that we had many special times together .
Always remember Perry Ga and all the Paso Fino shows shared . Know you will miss Pick dearly however cherish the times you enjoyed .
