Richard Poulos Obituary

Published by The Healy Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services - Sugar Grove Facility on Oct. 5, 2017.
Richard A. Poulos, 68 of Sandwich, IL passed on Thursday, October 5, 2017 peacefully at his home, beside his loving wife, Nancy. Rick was born May 30, 1949 in Chicago, IL to the late Ginger Poulos (Staflin) and Howard Rentsch. A Celebration of Rick's Life will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 1:00-4:00, with a service @ 3:30 at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr. Sugar Grove, IL 60554. Friends and family are also invited to continue sharing memories at The Fireside Grille, 49 Sugar Ln. Sugar Grove, IL immediately following the service. Rick was a small business owner all of his adult life. He began in construction and worked his way into owning a company with his wife, and several employees and drivers beside him, in transportation for the Department of Defense. Rick prided himself in the success of this company and the employees who continue running it today. In Rick's free time, he loved spending time with family and friends. He spent much of his time boating and fishing, alongside Nancy and with friends, in the warm weather and sunshine. He also spent a lot of time making adventures and memories that will never be forgotten by his four grandchildren. Whether it was Command Central, digging for treasures, or whittling he always knew that teaching the grandkids life skills, to have fun and to live each day to its fullest was extremely important. When time allowed, Rick enjoyed woodworking and making furniture-many of us have pieces that will remain a constant reminder of his hard work and talent. Rick brought a smile and a laugh, to all lives that he touched. Rick is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Bouda-Poulos); his daughter Kimberley Chudik (husband Brian) of Crystal Lake, IL; his son Marc Poulos (wife Ellen) of Naperville, IL; his grandchildren Cullen and Emma Chudik, and; Gavin and Tess Poulos.

Nancy, I still think of Rick often. I wish I still had the chance to drop in on him at his office and talk. He was a great guy to work with and I had tremendous respect for him. Though I did not know him as well as I would have liked he was a person I will not forget. He taught me things about real estate that I still use to this day. He was the best client I ever worked for.

Nancy, So many great memories that will always endure. Lunch periods with Rick and morning rides to Maine West are some of the best.

Nancy, we sure are going to miss Rick and our happy times together in high school and later, in Florida. He made us laugh all of the time. He was one of a kind and enriched our lives. We spent many times talking about life, our kids, our hopes and aspirations. Rick had a special and practical way of seeing the world and we were always learning something new from him.

Please accept our deepest sympathy.

Dear Nancy and family, I am so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. Since I have retired to North Carolina, it is hard to get back to Illinois for visits although it seems I should have made a more valiant effort to come and see friends. I will never forget the day he drove his Harley through the school at Maine West...a wild and crazy guy! You will be missed Rick, RIP my friend.

Rick always stood out in a crowd . Like the first time we meet him and Nan over 20 years ago. His funny mannerisms and big kind heart is just a few things we will remember. He was a giant teddy bear that gave the best hugs. We are very sadden by his (too soon) departure, but we take comfort in the many awesome fun filled memories we shared with him. God speed our dear friend. You will be missed in unmeasurable terms.
