Richard Lee Powell, born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Hamilton, New Jersey at the age of 91. His life was a testament to service, family, and community, leaving a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
A proud Korean War veteran, Richard dedicated his career to the safety of others, retiring as a Lieutenant from the Ewing Township Police Department. His commitment to public service extended beyond his professional life, as he was an active member of the Trenton Elks #105, the West Trenton Fire Department, and the Ewing FOP #83. These affiliations were not just a part of his routine; they were avenues through which he formed lifelong friendships and made lasting contributions to his community.
Richard's love for sports was undeniable. He was an avid fan of the Phillies and the Eagles, and he never missed a game of West Virginia college basketball.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan DelVecchio Powell, his parents, Frank and Christina Powell, his siblings, Mike Powell, Sandi DeHart, and Jo Neer, and his in-laws, Antoinette and James DelVecchio, David Metz, Angela and Jack Oakley, and John Seckinger. Richard's love and guidance continue to live on through his daughter, Diana Lynn Lambert, his grandchildren, Jessalyn Abbott (Rigo), Ryan Abbott (Linda), and Ethan Lambert, and his great-granddaughter, Harper. His sisters, Carolyn Metz and Jeanne Reese, sister-in-law Josephine Seckinger, and his longtime friend Marianne Picerno, along with many nieces and nephews, will also hold dear the memories of the times they shared.
Richard's life was one of honor and his presence will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully.
As we say goodbye to Richard Lee Powell, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
