Richard Powers Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2025.
Richard (Dickie) Claude Powers, 76, of Pinellas Park, FL died on November 20th, 2025 at the Bay Pines VA Hospital. Dickie was born in Newport, Vermont on May 8th, 1949, the son of Ken and Jackie Powers. Dickie proudly served his Country in the Army, 82nd Airborne, during the Vietnam War. After the Army he came back to the Northeast Kingdom (NEK), met and married the love of his life, Rachel Leblanc Powers. Dickie loved Vermont, especially the NEK where he worked at Newport Creamery and the railroad; but the majority of his career was spent managing the body shop of the local Ford dealership. His final job was one where he could put all of his self-taught skills to good use as the maintenance man for two local hotels. He was dedicated, loyal and hard working. After retiring, he and Rachel started to snow bird in Florida until they decided to move there permanently to be closer to their son.

Dickie was not one to wait for life to find him, he lived loudly and fully. He loved cars, especially fast and loud cars and one of his greatest dreams he realized was restoring his 1969 Plymouth GTX back to its original glory, the car he had since before he was married. He was a Harley guy too, and owned several throughout his life. Anything with a motor got his attention such as tractor pulls, NASCAR, motorcycle racing, drag racing, Monster Truck Jams, etc. By far, one of his biggest passions was hunting. He grew up hunting with his father around the NEK but eventually settled in Coventry Gore where he built a camp, "Buck's Crossing", that he shared with his father, son and countless friends over the years. Dickie loved to laugh and make others laugh, he was a loyal friend and his family meant the world to him.

Dickie is survived by his loving family: wife, Rachel, his son, Scott and son-in-law Stuart Wingate of St. Petersburg, FL. Sister, Shirley Mcfadzean, Sister in-law, Rose-Marie Pepin and several nieces and a nephew. He also had several special extended family members and close friends, who he considered family, who he spoke of often and always had special stories and memories to recount.

Contributions can be made in Dickie's memory to a cause that was very dear to his heart: America's Vet Dogs.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life may be held at a later date. Online condolences are welcomed at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society.
