I remember talking to my dad often about the past. He enjoy his friendship with Paul and Pat Weeks who he'd know for many years. He had seen a lot of changes over the years. For example, he got a scholarship to Brown University to play football. He knew the man who paid for his 4 years. He often went to the games, and the track meets, when Dad had to give up football because of injury.
Growing up, his father owned a gas station. They had one of the few phone. Someone would call for someone in town. One of the Purington boys would round up that person.
The operator knew everyone in town.
When we first moved to Belmont, we had a four party line. You can imagine how well that went over with 4 girls. Fortunately, it didn't last long.
We moved from New Hampton, because the all boys prep school
was across the street.
DAD loved watching football and a baseball games. Red Sox, of course. Its hard to getting him to the table on Thanksgiving. He loved reading, listening to books on tape and his crossword puzzles.
In the 1960's he drove me around to fairs with my heifers and sheep. We took one of my sheep to the Big E in Springfield, MA in the back seat of the car. Vicky rode fine as long as we didn't stop. People were shocked to hear her complaining when he stop at stoplight.
Dad, I always see articles to share with you. I miss talking to you on the phone. SORRY this is so disjointed. Thanks for the memories, Dad.. Donna
