Ratigan,
Richard S. Sr.
TROY - Troy bids a fond farewell to one of its lifelong residents, Richard S. Ratigan Sr., who passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Born in Troy, on April 16, 1935, Richard was the son of the late John W. and Helen (Galligan) Ratigan. He received his education locally, attending Troy Public School No. 14 and Troy High School. A proud Korean War Veteran, Richard dedicated eight years of honorable service to the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he established a long and dedicated career at the Behr-Manning (Norton) Company, in Watervliet, where he retired after 40 years of employment.
Richard will be fondly remembered for his deep appreciation of the outdoors. Whether casting a fishing line or engaging in tasks around his home like mowing the lawn and gardening, he found joy in nature. Above all, his greatest love was always his family.
He was the devoted husband of 65 years to his beloved wife, Carol Frances (Kyea) Ratigan, whom he married on February 13, 1960, at the former St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Troy. He was a loving father to Richard Jr. (Lisa); a cherished grandfather to Sean; and a doting great-grandfather to Bennett, Emmarie, and Elloise. Richard is also survived by his two dear sisters, Helen Reinhard and Mary Torncello; and several adored nieces and nephews.
Private immediate family to honor Richard's memory and call from 10:00 a.m. until noon, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Ave. (corner of 104th St.), Troy, N.Y. 12180. A Funeral Service will commence at noon, in the funeral home. Procession and committal will follow with Military Honors, at 2:30 p.m., in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, in Schuylerville.
