Richard L. Ripke, 77, of Sanford, MI passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born April 27, 1947 in Midland, MI to Robert J. and Susan (Reid) Ripke. Richard married the love of his life Anita E. Folts on July 13, 1968 and they shared 56 loving years together.
Richard loved his family, taking long country drives, and traveling. He dedicated his life to the Fire Service and received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. Richard's life of service included: Gladwin County Sheriff's Office (posse member and Deputy Emergency Services Director); Hall Funeral Home and Ambulance Service (Emergency Medical Technician); Michigan Department of Conservation (Forest Fire key man and Volunteer conservation officer); Midland Fire Department (23 years of service, retiring as Fire Marshal); Edenville Township Fire/Rescue (30 years of service, serving as Deputy Fire Chief and Training Officer).
Richard also enjoyed teaching at the Midland County Fireman's Academy, Midland County Search & Rescue, and at the Delta College Fire Science Program. He served on many county boards.
Richard is survived by his wife Anita Ripke and daughter Lisa (Charles) Begian. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert George, John (Dianna), William (Kathy), and Steven (Becky) Ripke. He is predeceased by his parents.
The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Edenville Township Fire Rescue Department in his honor:
