Richard E. Rodgers, age 80, of Amity, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024.
He was born on July 3, 1944. He was born in Rosboro, the son of Delmar Earl Rogers and Myrtle Marie (Kizer) Rogers . He was preceded in death by his parents ; and his first wife, Patricia Olean (Varner) Rodgers.
Richard was a member of Culvert Springs Assembly of God Church. He was a retired Navy Veteran where he spent twenty-four years serving our country. He then worked for twenty-one years for the Arkansas Department of Corrections before retiring. He loved to squirrel hunt and was a very talented woodworker. Richard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Pate Colton Rodgers of Shreveport, Louisiana; his son, David Eric Rodgers and his fiance, Michelle Anderson; his daughter and son-in-law, Ella Cheryl and Larry Jordan; His two stepsons, Timmy (Angie) Colton and Terry (Angel) Colton; his bonus daughter, Lanna (Rodney) McRae; his five grandchildren, Dustin Rodgers, Daniel Rodgers, Kaitlyn Rodgers, Amanda (Jordan) Gillotti, and Sammi Jordan; his four great-grandchildren, Raylan, Emma, Wyatt, and Rowan Gilloti; his four step-grandchildren, Krystal, Chase, Sara, and Kimberly; his four step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Roy Rogers; his two sisters, Alice Shirley and Linnie Evans; and his many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Pallbearers will be Greg Fagan, Brandon Crawford, Lance Maxey, Hunter Maxey, Dustin Rodgers, Daniel Rodgers, and Dewayne Francis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Tim Webb and his staff at Genesis Cancer Center, Dr. Matthew Hulsey and his staff, Dr. Patel and National Park Medical Center, the Med Surg Staff at National Park Medical Center, Jerry Knighten, Billy Fred Smith, Bill Terry, and Tom Walker .
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home- Glenwood.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Fagan officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Our Promise of Genesis Cancer Center in Richard’s name at www.ourpromise.info
Interment will be held at Coker Cemetery.
