We were both at Ft Campbell at the same time, but didn't know each other then. I met Dick in Saigon in December 1962. I was the crew chief of 880, one of the first 11 UH-1B gunships in country. Dick was the tech inspector in the field maintenance company. I learned a lot from Dick as he worked with us on the flight line, and his knowledge, without doubt saved many lives. The UH-1B were second generation and had several pretty serious problems. At the end of each flying day, Dick spent many hours with us inspecting and repairing them. Yep, I remember his motorcycle also. Back in the States, my wife and I, had fun times with Dick and Del at reunions. They also helped us get through the loss of one of our sons in the Iraq war. God bless Dick and Del, see you on the other side.
