Richard Scheble Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baldauff Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Orange City on May 19, 2025.
Richard Kenneth "Rich" Scheble, 83, of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2025.
Born on May 30, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, Rich was the son of the late Kenneth and Helen (Kuehnle) Scheble. He served with honor in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1979, achieving the rank of E8-Senior Chief Petty Officer-and was last stationed in Hawaii aboard the USS Sargo (SSN-583). It was during his time in Hawaii that he met the love of his life, Lynne (Rowland) Scheble. They married on October 14, 1978, in Connecticut, and shared over 46 years filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
He was a true jack of all trades, always ready to lend a hand or take on a new project. Rich's hobbies were as varied as they were passionate-he was an avid motorcycle rider, woodworker, miniature ship builder, and even bred and raised lovebirds. A grill master and skilled cook, he delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. He was a meat-and-potatoes Midwestern boy at heart, with a legendary sweet tooth. He also loved sharing his time and talents with others, including coaching little league and high school softball.
Rich had a deep love of history, learning, and stories. He was an ardent reader, especially drawn to historical and military thrillers. He would always be up for a good movie, especially The Hunt for Red October and Dances with Wolves. He never missed a chance to read every plaque in a museum, always eager to soak up knowledge wherever he went. His adventurous spirit carried him around the world-through Europe, Russia, Iceland, and many other places-and across the U.S. on motorcycle trips with his brothers and friends, camping in national parks. He also sailed to far-off destinations with close companions, always chasing new horizons. One of his most meaningful journeys in recent years was surprising Lynne with a return trip to Hawaii-the island where their story began.
Music was a constant in Rich's life-from the gospel music his father loved, to the Southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the tongue-in-cheek storytelling of Dr. Hook. His laugh was unforgettable and infectious, his personality could fill a room.
Rich is survived by his wife, Lynne; his daughter, Brandy; and his grandson, Logan. He is also survived by his siblings: John and Mary Scheble of Missouri; Bob Scheble and partner Kim of Colorado; Steven and Sharon Scheble of Missouri; Ruth Feldewerth of Missouri; and Loretta Kirchoff of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kempfer. Rich also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Rich lived a full, generous life-rooted in service, curiosity, and connection. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those lucky enough to know him.
There will be a celebration of life on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 2pm, at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.
