Richard “Dick” John Schlachter, 82, of Wilson, passed away Wednesday. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash Street North, Wilson, North Carolina. Father Jeffrey Bowker will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Amy Farrugia of Ontario, Canada, Ann McCauley and husband, Kevin of Saginaw, Michigan; sons, Marc Schlachter of Wilson, Rick Schlachter and wife, Candace of Altus, Oklahoma, Erin Schlachter and wife, Sharon of Greensboro, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Diane of Ontario, Canada; sister, Charlene Shaw of Michigan; brothers, Bob Schlachter of Michigan and Art Schlachter of Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Mary Anne Schlachter Nietzelt, the mother of his children; dear friend, Mary O’Neal; parents, John Charles and Louise Mary Schlachter and son, Alan Schlachter.
Having served in the army during the Korean War, Dick was a servant at heart. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer for Veterans Residential Services of Wilson. Dick gave much time and soul to the organization and the family would like to request memorials be made in his name to Veterans Residential Service of Wilson, 2500 Nash Street, Suite E, Wilson, North Carolina, 27896.
