As a member of the executive staff of the mid-America Chapter of the American Red Cross in Chicago,Il in the late 1980's I was tasked with picking President Schubert up at the airport as he was attending a big twelve chapter meeting hosted by us. I mentioned to him that I was going to pursue a law degree even though I planned to stay with the Red Cross. He asked want law school was I intending to apply to and I said Catholic University or American University. And he said to me even though that was my very first time meeting him, If you wind up in the DC area attending law school we will have to see about getting you a part time job at NHQ. I was blown away by that kind act from someone who did not know me from adam but had a caring nature that was so remarkable.

Served with Richard on a board and am saddened to learn of his passing. His insights and wisdom along with his testimony echo through my mind. It was not only what he did but how he did it which reflected who he was. May God´s love saturate the family in this time.
