Richard Seefeldt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home - Wittenberg on Feb. 27, 2026.
Richard A. Seefeldt, 97 of Eland, died on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at home, in the care of his loving family and Aspirus Hospice Care.

Rich was born on May 13, 1928, at the farmhouse, the son of Paul and Irma (Hegewald) Seefeldt.

On June 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Hilda Tabbert, where they spent 56 years together; she preceded him in death on December 30, 2006.

Rich farmed in Elderon with his wife and son until retirement in 1992, when his son took over the farm. He still helped work the fields for many years after.

To say Rich loved hunting is an understatement. If there was a season, he was hunting for it. He started at a young age with squirrels and deer. He spent many years running coyotes and bears with his hound dogs, his favorite being Sam. He took many trips out west to hunt elk and Canada for moose. His true passion came when they introduced turkeys to the hunt. He shot his last turkey at age 96. In the evenings, you could see him driving around to check on the turkeys. Later in life, he spent summers up on Pine Lake fishing for blue gills. As much as he enjoyed hunting, he loved the "after the hunt", with a cold beer and tomato juice or enjoying an Old Fashioned. Many had the pleasure of being called 'Little Darlin' or 'Sweetie' with a wink and a smile. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, canning his tomato juice and pickles, and of course, cutting wood. Rich also gave back to his community as a member of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School Board for many years.

He is survived by his son, Rick (Kathy) Seefeldt of Eland; four granddaughters, Heather (Robert) Yenter of Hatley, Jaime (Jeremy) Resch of Eland, April (Lance) Loonsfoot of Kronenwetter and Jenna (Donnie) Fahey of Hatley; eight great grandchildren, Tyler (Anna) and Abby Giddings, Dalton and Vivian Resch, Jolene Loonsfoot and Malayna, Kendra and Kase Fahey; one sister, Diane (special friend, Terry) Ploeger, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Irma Seefeldt; wife, Hilda; brothers, Del and Ray Seefeldt; sisters, Marge Beckwith, Elaine Krueger and Grace Mathie and special friend, Marie Nievinski.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Mr. Dan Cnossen will preside. Burial will be in Evergreen Rest Cemetery, Elderon. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-7PM, at the funeral home, and again on Saturday, from 9AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
