Richard "Rick" Smith, a beloved husband, father, and friend, will be deeply missed after he passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 10, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Rick touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth and generosity.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Geraldine Smith, and his brother, Mark Smith. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through his wife of 54 years, Vicki (Rankin) Smith; daughter, Michelle (Smith) Allen; son, Michael Smith; daughter-in-law, Megan (Patterson) Smith; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Connor Allen, Lillian Smith, Claire Smith, and Brady Smith. He is also survived by his loving sister, Sandy (Smith) Duffie, and brother, Dwight Smith.
Rick dedicated 35 years of his life to Allison Transmission before retiring in 2009, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his colleagues. Outside of work, he found joy in riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, exploring the 48 contiguous states with family and friends, and playing golf. His true passion, however, was watching his grandchildren shine in their sports, always cheering them on with pride.
His kindness knew no bounds. Whether it was a small favor or a grand gesture, Rick gave freely of himself, never asking for anything in return. Those who knew him understand the profound impact he had on the souls of everyone he met.
In a testament to his generous spirit, the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
Funeral services to honor Rick's life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025. Family and friends are invited to gather at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel, visitation starting at 9:00 AM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, where we will come together to celebrate the beautiful life of an extraordinary man.
