Richard Travers Obituary
May 12, 1971 - April 19, 2025
Richard P. Travers of Newtown, CT died on Saturday, April 19th at the age of 53. Richard was surrounded by family as he passed from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Besides Rich's family his greatest love was motorcycles. He loved nothing more than time in the garage working on his bikes, a passion he shared with his nephew Nick. Besides his love of motorcycles Rich was also a talented photographer. We are lucky enough to have portraits of the simple, yet beautiful scenes Rich managed to capture on his rides through the county and his time out on the water. For work, Richard was a Chief Engineer for NYS Marine Highway Transportation. A career he somewhat fell into, but soon realized suited him perfectly.
Richard leaves behind a family who loved him deeply. His father James Travers of Newtown, brother Jeremy Travers (Kelly) of Summit, NY and sister Laurie Carr (Robert) of Oxford, CT. As well as his beloved nieces and nephews, Nick, Ali and Claire of Oxford, CT and Shavonne, Alex and Gemma of Summit, NY. Richard was predeceased by his mom Linda Travers, grandparents Ruth and Sherwood Travers and Paul and Martha Makl.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025 at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St., North Southbury, CT from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Richard's name to The Harold Leever Cancer Center C/O The Reflection Boutique, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708. A boutique that assists women facing the challenges of cancer treatment.
