Richard Monroe Varn Sr.

Richard Monroe Varn, Sr., 62, of Valdosta passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on December 19, 1947 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Richard Hobson Varn and Violet Virginia Southerland Varn. Mr. Varn owned and operated Valdosta AAA Signs Inc. and was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Toni Nijem Varn of Valdosta, his children, Mary Shea Varn Groom and her husband, Stephen Groom of Valdosta, Rich Varn, II and his wife, Connie Varn of Nashville, GA., Matthew N. Varn and his wife, Jessica Varn of Augusta, GA., his grandchildren, Addison Groom, Aniston Groom, Rich Varn III, Victoria Varn, his brothers and sister in law, Mike and Renea Varn of Lake Park, Arnie Varn of Allentown, Pennsylvania, his sisters, Gail Lumpkin of Palatka, Fla and Barbara Barrow of Coolidge. He was preceded in death by his parents in law, Ernest and Josephine Nijem of Valdosta. Funeral mass will be held at 2pm, Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Dan O'Connell officiating. Entombment will follow in the Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1pm until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
