Richard Vossberg Obituary
Richard Vossberg, age 62 of Lake View, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his home. Richard Craig Vossberg was born on August 11, 1963, in Waverly, Iowa, to parents Wayne and Olive (Laughery) Vossberg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Western Douglas Church in Plainfield, Iowa. Growing up on a farm in Plainfield, Rich learned the value of hard work, community, and the simple joys of country life. He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1981.
After graduation, Rich spent a few years in Colorado before returning to Plainfield. In 1982, he married Shelly Trowbridge, and together, they were blessed with two children, Lance and Amanda. They later divorced.
In 1986, Rich began his career with the Chicago Central Railroad, which later became the Canadian National Railroad. He later moved to Wall Lake, Iowa. His strong work ethic and easygoing personality made him well-liked among his coworkers-many of whom he affectionately gave nicknames to over the years. He retired after a long and dedicated career, but his hard-working spirit didn't stop there. In his retirement, Rich enjoyed helping area farmers during planting and harvest seasons, lending a hand and good company wherever he could.
On July 4, 1998, he married Mary Henrichs. They purchased an acreage outside of Lake View and together built a life they loved. The two of them loved taking rides on their side-by-side through the countryside, often stopping to visit neighbors along the way. They also enjoyed trips to casinos together; but more than anything, just being together.
Rich was a family man through and through. He adored his children and grandchildren and was their biggest supporter-rarely missing their games or events. Some of his happiest moments came from fishing trips with his son and grandson where the catch of the day was often second to the laughter and fun they had together.
Rich could often be found in his garage-a favorite hangout spot-tinkering, relaxing, or visiting with neighbors and friends or family who stopped by for a chat. He enjoyed a good conversation, a few laughs, and a cold Bud Light in hand. His easygoing nature and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like an old friend. Rich was known for his big hugs and the way he always ended a phone call with a heartfelt "Love ya."
The man loved his ink pens. He proudly "collected" them and when his stash got too big, made his family members take some off his hands. This always gave them a big laugh.
Rich was a good guy who loved deeply. His legacy lives on in that love he gave, the friendships he built, and the countless memories shared by those lucky enough to know him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Vossberg of Lake View, IA; son Lance (Tammi) Vossberg of Akron, IA; daughter Amanda Younie of Sanborn, IA; stepson Jay (Beth) Bobenmoyer of Lake View, IA; grandchildren Landyn and Addison Vossberg, Christopher and Taylor Schmidt; step grandchildren Brandon and Tyler Bobenmoyer; brothers Doug (Pat) Vossberg of St. Johns, FL, and Ken Vossberg (Annette Wood) of Waverly, IA; sisters Marilyn (Terry) Norton of Clarksville, IA, and Deb (Ed) Willert of Shell Rock, IA; sister-in-law Sue Vossberg of Ponderosa, IA; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
