Richard Eugene Walch, age 77, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Raymond, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 2:31 PM, at his home with his beloved wife by his side.

A Graveside Service and burial will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Morrisonville City Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL. Military Rites will be accorded.

Richard was born the son of Omar C. and Viola R. (Halford) Walch on October 12, 1947, in Raymond, Illinois.

Richard grew up in Raymond, having graduated from Raymond High School in 1965. After graduation, Mr. Walch honorably served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Once his time of service was over, he came back to central Illinois to begin work in the area. He commuted to Decatur every day for his Forklift Operator position at the Caterpillar Plant for over 38 years.

He married the former Ms. Beverly Ann Stone on June 22, 1974, at Raymond United Methodist Church. Richard and his wife Beverly attended church there until they moved to the Springfield area and became members of the Westside Christian Church in Springfield. Together they enjoyed traveling the United States together, even making their way up into Canada. The couple landed in Branson, MO every year for a nice vacation, making it one of their favorite spots to be together. Richard had a love for photography, favoring the art of a black and white photograph. He also had a deep passion for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces with the natural coloring and features of the wood. He was notably known for his carved wooden ducks, carousel horses, and depictions of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and other biblical figures and scenery.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Walch of Springfield; his son Christopher Heather of Springfield; niece, Tammy Bourmatnov; and nephews, Dayton (Sue) Dudas, Devin (Lori) Dudas, and Kevin Walch.

Mr. Walch was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Viola; sister, Delores Dudas; and brother, Don Walch.

Memorials in Mr. Walch's honor may be directed to the Central Illinois Food Bank at the mailing address: Central Illinois Foodbank, PO Box 8228, Springfield, IL 62791.
