Richard Walsh
August 16, 1930 - December 27, 2025
Richard G. Walsh, age 95, passed from this world on December 27, 2025. He was born on August 16, 1930, in Seward, Neb., to Thomas and Frances (Pape) Walsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his first wife, Marjorie; and by his wife, Patricia, of 45 years.
He is survived by his children: daughters, Cathryn (Blair), and Susan (Norm); sons, Father Tom, and Robert; and by his grandchildren, Jessica (Adam), Jazz (Brian), Cleda (Raphael), and Rosy (Josh); his step-children, Paula (Alan), Eric (Celia), and Christine (Tony); his step-grandchildren, Nicholas (Erica), Whitney, and Sage; his nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, Deanne (and Robert) Summerfelt.
Richard dedicated his professional life to education, research, and writing in economics. He worked as assistant professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in agricultural economics, before continuing his career for 28 years as a professor of natural resource economics at Colorado State University.
He deeply loved the world of nature. Whenever he was able, he would go hiking or cross-country or downhill skiing; he cherished times in the Rocky Mountains. When his children were small, he took them on summer camping trips, and later there were camping trips, and hiking and skiing with his children and grandchildren.
He appreciated and excelled in sports, music, and painting, and later, after his retirement, in sculpting; and he always kept up on the newspapers and the "human condition." At Madonna-St. Jane in Lincoln during his last three years, his family gave him constant love and attention, and they are very grateful for the care and love he received from those who work there, and the volunteers. Richard died with the consolations of a believing Catholic, and his family thanks you for your prayers.
