Richard was the father of one of my best friends. He was such a kind soul. Great dry sense of humor. I had a hard time figuring out if he was being serious or funny. Great father, grandfather and lover of trains. I always enjoyed conversing with him at social gatherings. He will be missed!

Richard was a good friend of Teresa and myself for over 40 years. We knew Richard through our memberships in local railway historical groups, which were the Washington D.C. Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and the Old Dominion Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts. Richard was a reliable volunteer in both organizations and helped out with difficult projects. He was always cheerful and friendly and eager to help others. For years he performed maintenance and repairs on the Washington D.C. Chapter´s immaculately restored 1923 Pullman heavyweight passenger car Dover Harbor and volunteered at the Chapter´s library in Bowie, MD. Richard was also a Major League baseball fan and we attended dozens of Baltimore Orioles games with our mutual friend Clay Moritz, who had Orioles season tickets. We were very saddened to hear of Richard´s passing and we miss him.

We are thinking of Sandy and the girls at this time. What a gentle soul, with his hiking hat on and his stick in his hand walking down the street and always had time to stop on the porch to chat. He was the guardian of the Common Property loving the trees there. We will all miss him in our neighborhood.
Glad we have known him for 43 years here in Vienna.
