Estes Park resident Richard Webb died at his home on Saturday, December 12, 2009. He was 94 years old. Richard C. Webb was born September 2, 1915 in Omaha, NE. His parents were Clarence T. and Lillian (Anderson) Webb. Richard moved to Denver, CO in 1919 and graduated from East High School in 1933. Richard met Virginia Rolston in high school and they were married on March 28, 1941 in Denver, CO. He graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Physics in 1937, Purdue University with a MSEE in 1944, did graduate studies at Princeton University from 1946-1949 and received his Ph.D from Purdue University in 1951. Richard worked for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph as a Telephone Engineer, a RCA Research Fellow at Purdue University, RCA laboratories as a staff Research Engineer, as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at both Iowa State College and University of Denver and as Senior Research Engineer in the associated research facility, the Denver Research Institute. He was also the Founder, Technical Director and President of Colorado Research Corporation, Colorado Instruments, Inc. and Data Ray Corporation. He was a visiting lecturer at the University of Colorado from 1962-1982. Richard retired in 1985. He was the author of many publications, and a member of several professional associations. Richard received the “Outstanding Research Award” from RCA Laboratories, “Fellow Award” of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, “Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award” from Purdue University, “Outstanding Professional Achievement Award” from University of Denver Alumni Association, “Outstanding Electrical Engineer” from Purdue University and Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Denver. Richard moved to Estes Park full time in 1985 after having lived there for several summers. He served as a consulting engineer and teacher for Webb Engineering, enjoyed theater pipe organ, ham radio, and oil painting. He was a member of the Scandinavian Club of Estes Park, Estes Park Music Festival, Fine Arts Guild of Rockies and served on the Board of Directors for the Estes Park Art Center. Richard is survived by his wife Virginia Webb of Estes Park; son James Webb and wife Deborah of Holualoa, HI; grandchildren Kristofor Webb and wife Caisey of Los Angeles, CA, Victoria Webb of Estes Park, Brittany Wild of Longmont, Richard Webb of Aurora and Robert Webb of San Francisco, CA; and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies. Memorial contributions can be made to S.O.P.A. in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517.
