Richard West Obituary

Richard V. West Sr.

NORTHAMPTON, MA - Richard V. West Sr. 81, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, after a brief illness. Richard was born in Fall River, a son of the late Vernon P. and Constance L. (Ide) West. The family moved to Williamsburg where Richard grew up. He attended Williamsburg schools and immediately joined the USAF following graduation. He proudly served with the 4th Mobile Communications Group as a Radio Operator. His foreign service time included assignment in Turkey and Caribbean stations. He was honorably discharged, returning home in 1966. He married Lucy Anne Clark on February 2, 1966, and they shared 60 years of memories, love, and family together as their family grew. Dick worked as a supervisor for many years with Strathmore Paper in Westfield, National Felt in Easthampton, and National Textile in Holyoke. Never one to sit still he drove a van for disabled and elderly for several years in his retirement. When Dick was younger, he was an avid golfer and past member of Thomas Memorial Golf Course in Turners Falls. He and Lucy were longtime members of the Williamsburg Congregational Church. Dick was a member of the Williamsburg Lions and the Williamsburg Grange for many years. He enjoyed doing crosswords, sudoku and playing scrabble against any who dared to challenge him. Dick, at the end of the day, just loved relaxing and enjoying the simple things in life. He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Lucy Anne (Clark) West. His sons; Richard V. West and his partner Christina Plasse of Deerfield and David A. West and his wife Chantal of Goshen. His five grandchildren; Jillian, Nicole and Lucianne West, Jacob West and his wife Rylee and Lilly Hale-West and her wife Gretchen. His siblings; Lawrence E. West and his wife Linda of Williamsburg and Linda Banks of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. My condolences to your family, sorry for your loss.
I worked with Dick West at the Coca-Cola company in Northampton in the early 1970s. He was one of the best guys that I ever worked with. The work was hard there, but he was great at keeping everybody laughing and keeping the mood light,.
I still remember his laugh and his smile and his great sense of humor.
Last time I saw him was at a Christmas party we held at our house in Florence.
I was sad to hear of his passing, but remember his friendship fondly.
