Richard Alan "Dick" Williams, 92, of Williamsport, MD, formerly of Marlboro and Southwick, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Doey's Hospice House in Hagerstown, MD.
Born on March 13, 1932, in Rochester, New York, Dick was the beloved son of the late Donald W. and Bernice (Nevins) Williams.
Dick's journey was one defined by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. His life was a tapestry woven with stories of summers spent on his grandparents' farm, where cherished memories were made alongside uncles and grandmother in the kitchen. A graduate of West High School, Rochester, NY, Class of 1950, Dick's prowess on the basketball court earned him admiration and accolades. His passion for the sport continued through his collegiate years at Bowling Green State University, where he proudly donned the Division 1 jersey while pursuing his BS degree in Business.
Following his U.S. Army service in the Korean War Dick's professional journey led him to Rochester, NY, where he found not only career success as an Insurance Underwriter for Travelers but also the love of his life, Patricia. Their union on May 4, 1957, marked the beginning of a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. They raised their family in Warwick, RI, Rochester NY and Marlboro, MA where they lived for over 50 years.
Dick provided a dedication to community service wherever he lived. This was evidenced by his roles as a founding President of the youth baseball league, President of the Band Parents Association, and, most notably, as Scoutmaster of Troop 2 Marlboro. We heard many stories of the summer's Boy Scout Camp Resolute with his troop and sons. He took immense pride in guiding countless scouts on their journey to becoming remarkable individuals, a legacy that continues to flourish today. One of his proudest moments came when he was able to deliver his Grandson David with his Eagle Scout Charge. His commitment to service extended into retirement, where he found joy in golf, community leadership, and cherished moments with his grandchildren watching every event no matter how far he traveled.
In his final chapter, Dick and Patricia relocated to Williamsport, MD, where they were embraced by family and continued to create cherished memories together. He found solace in the simple pleasures of golf, gardening, painting, and reading, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Patricia Ann "Patty" Williams, just four short months ago on December 23rd. He is survived by his loving sons, Gregory Alan Williams and his wife Terry of Merrimack, NH, and Bruce Steven Williams and his wife Jaime of Myersville, MD. His legacy lives on through his seven grandchildren, Kristin, David, Evin, Bryan, Sara, Courtney, and Ali, as well as six great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
In the hearts of those who knew him, Dick's memory will forever be cherished as a beacon of love, integrity, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
