As a talented golfer, Dick had played Varsity Golf at the University of Ashland, where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelors Degree in Business.
Following college, Dick converted the manual accounting system at RR Donnelly & Sons in Willard to a computer system. Thus, paving the way for their expansion in the company.
Dick then taught Business and Data Processing at Shelby Pioneer Joint Vocational School for 4 years then joined Combined Ins. Co. where he was one of the top producers in Ohio from 1976 to 1979. He transferred to Panama City, FL as the District Manager for the panhandle. In addition to his family, golf was a major part of Dick's life. Having been a four-year varsity golfer in high school and Ashland University, he also played for the Navy golf team where he won Seven Club Championships; had 13 holes-in-one (all in competition & confirmed) and won over 40 tournaments and league championships. He first shot his age at 68. Following retirement, Dick worked part-time at a golf course in Florida for 6 months and 6 months in Ohio every year until his 82nd birthday.

In 2014, Dick received unfortunate news and was diagnosed with Multiple Myloma in the lower back and right hip. A Doctor at the time advised him to sell his golf clubs and that his time left was approximately 1 to 3 years. Dick was a fighter, and after a hard battle for little over a year, he was told that he was in remission. With this great news, he went back to golf and worked himself to playing in the low 40's.
Dick was blessed with a great family and many friends that he made during his lifetime, especially in Willard and Panama City. While living in Panama City, he met many nationally known and successful professional golfers, entertainers in movies and singers from Nashville, TN.
A favorite quote of his was from thanatopsis: "So line that when a summons comes to join a caravan that moves in this mysterious realm. Go not like a quarry slave at night but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust approach thy grave.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date by the family.
