Richard Young Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 4, 2025.
Richard Nelson Young was born July 29, 1931 and passed away on September 2, 2025. 94 years YOUNG! Between his two wives he gained a family filled with children, grandchildren and great grand children. Too numerous to count. In his own words, he had a good life. He was born in South Williamstown at home. His first business was raising chickens and selling eggs as a youngster. He graduated from Williamstown High School in 1948. He continued his studies taking classes in Finance. He was the office manager/finance manager for several Berkshire County car dealerships. He retired in 1994. He also worked as the Tax Collector and Town Clerk for several terms in Hancock.

Back in 1966, he sold the homestead property, where Waubeeka golf course is now. He married Bertha (Northup, Dane) Young and they built the ranch house on the hill in Hancock, where he spent the rest of his life. Bertha's daughter, Sandra and husband, Russ Gale Sr. gave him an instant family. Later when Bertha took ill, Dick took great care of her. In her last years, he had help come in. Rose Mary Burk was one of those people. They bonded over the loving care they both gave Bertha.

Bertha passed away on October 16, 2013. When Dick married Rose Mary Burk on November14, 2015

he gained another family. They loved and supported each other until her passing on September 23, 2021

Those who passed on before him are his parents John L Young and Bessie (Main) Young, his brother John and a nephews Roger and Michael and his two wives, Bertha and Rose Mary and Grandson, Matthew Rice.

He leaves behind; Russ Gale, Jr., Matthew, Sammy Gale and Sonja and husband Jose Rodrigues and their 3 children. He also leaves behind Kathleen & Bob Rice (his caretakers) and Sheila & Bob Bleau, and Jimmy Wetherell and Laura (Suzi) Breen. Also their children and Great Grandchildren, especially Erinn & Jason Hnatonko, their children Evan and Payton Hnatonko, and Matthew's son, Sidney Rice, who visited often & had sleepovers. Great Papa Dick got to as many great grandchildren's school events and sporting events as he could. They brought him great joy and many hugs.

Greeting family will be on Sunday September 14, 2025 at 1:00 with a Church service following at Hancock Baptist Church. Burial will be private for the family. Donations are suggested for the Hancock Baptist Church.
