We had lost touch in recent years, so I was sad to see the news of his death in the recent issue of the UND alumni bulletin. Both Dick and Karen were good friends of my parents (Gene and Myrtle Johnson). He was our pastor at First Presbyterian in Grand Forks, ND. He sang at my wedding (as well as being the officiant)...I will never forget his wonderful voice. The last time we got together was out in Arizona when my parents were still alive and spending their snowbird time in Mesa. I remember him telling about his first weeks in his pastorate in Sun City...he said that he had never realized how much he utilized appearance to help him remember peoples' names, which he said was much harder when nearly everyone had grey hair....LOL!!

His kindness and wise counsel were always special gifts, and I feel privileged to have known him.

I first met Richard in my backyard in Sun City Arizona..a new member of the neighborhood in October 2000. He saw me and came over to welcome me and introduce himself. Oh such a nice gentleman. I knew we were blessed with great neighbors. HE AND YOUR MOM WOULD HAVE NEIGHBORS OVER FOR MEALS AND FELLOWSHIP. EXCELLENT HOSTS . WHEN THEY MOVED OUT TO SIERRA WINDS WE REALLY MISSED THEM. I DID GET TO GO TO VILLA LUNA MEXICAN FOOD WITH THEM AFTER THAT HOWEVER.
MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY AS YOU GO THROUGH THESE ROUGH TIMES . KAREN STEPHENSON
