Rickey "Rick" Lynn Harms, 70, of Olathe, passed away on June 8, 2023, at his home.
He was born on June 16, 1952, to William and Viola (Renken) Harms at Sibley, IA. He grew up on a farm in George, IA where he attended school with his brother Bill and sister Linda.
Rick later moved to Kansas and married Janet Elwood on April 16, 1983. Rick and Janet raised their daughter, Jamie, in Spring Hill. Rick and Janet's most recent home is in Olathe where Rick spent his retirement days. Rick retired from the glass plant in Spring Hill in 2017.
In his spare time, Rick's favorite hobbies were grilling, fishing, canoeing, and bicycle riding with his daughter, Jamie. Rick loved visiting different restaurants in the area with his wife, Janet. His favorite meal to enjoy out was breakfast and he appreciated good coffee. At home, Rick was usually busy in the garden, working in the yard, or building something from spare parts.
Most people who knew Rick would say he was hilarious. His sense of humor and quick wit will be deeply missed by us all. The thing he was best at was being a dad. He would play every game, activity, and sport with his daughter from wearing the clip-on earrings and tiaras in "Pretty Pretty Princess" to spending hours outside doing things like playing catch, playing duck and goose, sledding, and mushroom hunting. Rick was happiest when he could make others laugh.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
Rick is survived by his loving wife Janet of the home, daughter Jamie Harms of Olathe, brother William "Bill" Harms of Olathe, sister Linda Harms of Sheldon, IA, and many other relatives and friends.
Rick was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2021. If you would like to donate in memory of Rick, please consider donating to the Parkinson's Foundation.
Visitation will be held 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, Kansas, 66071. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Bucyrus Cemetery, Bucyrus, Kansas.
