Rick Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home - Palmer on Jan. 20, 2026.
Rick Alan Johnson, 61, of Palmer, Alaska, departed to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025 at 9:54 PM.
He was born on June 30th, 1964 in Tipton, IN to Harold Lloyd and Mildred Joan (Glassburn) Johnson. He married Leslie Jane (Day) Johnson on May 6th, 2023, who survives.
Rick was a PFC Track Vehicle Repairer for the US Army from September 1983 to March 1986. After separating from the Army, he worked for many companies to include INDOT, Mortenson Construction, Waste Management, the IN State Armory's, & Phoenix Management (DOD Contractor for the Air Force). He retired September 2025,to begin the next chapter of his life in Alaska with his wife.
Rick was a man who never met a stranger. He always enjoyed talking to everyone & helping whenever he could. He was a man of deep faith & compassion. His family meant everything to him & always came first. Rick loved his grandkids with all of his heart & spent as much time as possible with them. Among spending time with family & friends, he loved riding his Harley Davidson, mowing the yard with his Exmark mower, woodworking, & driving any &every piece of heavy equipment he could. His favorite passion was hunting. He quickly gained the name "Coyote" as he always seemed to shoot deer with some kind of injury. He was so excited to get to Alaska to go moose hunting with his wife.
Rick is survived by his daughters Lydia R. Johnson, & Nichole B. Johnson(Daniel Pollard); his son, Sean P. Johnson (Victoria); his step-son, Justin Newton; his grandchildren, Taylor Mayhill, Kayliana Gonzalez, Emma Johnson, David Pollard, Elaina Pollard, & Bella Newton.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Pamela J. Day; his sister-in-law, Katherine L. Day; his Uncle Phil & Aunt Deanie Dunham; and his two favorite dogs, Sadie & Dexter.
Rick was preceded in death by his father & mother; sister, Debra Sayer; step-brothers Rick J. Johnson & Greg Johnson; his grandchildren, Makaveli Johnson& Willow Johnson; his father-in-law, Larry Day; and his beloved dog, Cherokee.
A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date in Indiana.
