In the early morning of April 25, 2025, the world lost a true maverick as Rick Raymond Scannell passed away in Houston, Texas, at the age of 67. Born on January 27, 1958, in Burlingame, California, Rick lived his life in the fast lane-both literally and metaphorically. He was a son, a brother, and a father to five remarkable children, who fondly remember him for his wit, generosity, and a knack for rebellion.

Rick's career was as colorful as his personality, dedicating over 50 years to racing, building, and tinkering with cars, boats, and motorcycles. His love for all things mechanical was surpassed only by his passion for his family and friends. If there was a wrench in hand or an engine to fix, you could be sure Rick was up to the task-and probably cracking a joke while doing it.

He was survived by his son, Rick Scannell Jr., along with daughters Victoria, Olivia, Page, and Peyten. Rick also leaves behind his brothers, Mark Scannell and Danny Hillger, and his best friend Scooby. Together, they will continue to remember their beloved father and brother through laughter and stories of his legendary antics. After all, life with Rick was never dull.

Known for being both clever and stubborn, Rick had a way of getting things done his way-often with a punchline included. Whether he was surrounded by family during Sunday barbecues or cheering on his favorite racers, he had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and cherished.

While some may celebrate the racers and champions of the speedway, it was Rick's compassionate heart and clever wit that truly made him a champion in life. His ability to light up a room with laughter and his heartfelt generosity meant that he wasn't just a friend; he was the kind of guy you'd want by your side during life's pit stops. Rick's heart was as large as his love for racing, and his compassion was ever-present, whether in his generous spirit or his consideration for others. His legacy will live on in the roaring engines he loved, the memories shared around the dinner table, and the lessons he imparted on valuing time spent with loved ones.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable man-a stubborn soul with a heart of gold-we invite everyone who knew him to raise a glass (or a tool) in his memory. Though the pits of life may feel emptier without him, there's no doubt he'll be tuning up the afterlife with a mischievous grin and a promise of more stories to tell.
