Richard (Rick) Lee Whiting, 64, of Warrensburg, MO, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on December 31, 2023.
Born on March 7, 1959 to Vernon O. Whiting and Eva M. (Burkhart) Whiting in Independence, MO. Rick was a loving husband to Cynthia (Cindy) A. (McGuire) Whiting, whom he married on November 26, 1977.
He was a dedicated machinist for over 40 years. He loved riding motorcycles, hunting, getting new tattoos, playing with his animals, and finding new projects to work on. There was not a single thing that Rick could not fix. If there was ever a time that we could not find him, he'd be hiding in his shop working on his latest project or cruising the backroads on his Harley. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Rick was a great story teller and could talk your ear off about anything and he would make friends with anybody he ran in to. Highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them new things. Perfectly described by his nephew, "Rick was one of the scariest, nicest, roughest, toughest, softest, kindest, goofiest, smartest, simplest, and inappropriately-appropriate men known to walk this earth."
Rick is survived by his wife, Cindy Whiting; his parents, Vernon & Eva Whiting of Independence, MO; his son, Thomas (Sarah) Craig of Oak Grove, MO; his daughter, Jennifer (Whiting) Mitchem of Independence, MO. Additionally, he is survived by three brothers, Gerry (Jackie) Whiting of Gassville, AR, Kenny Whiting of Independence, MO, and Denny Whiting of Independence, MO and one brother-in-law, LeRoy (Cindy) McGuire of Wellington, MO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Crystal (Alex Doolittle) Mitchem and Blake Mitchem of Pleasant Hill, MO, Tristan Craig, Maci Craig, Brianna Craig, and Elyse Craig of Oak Grove, MO, and Tyler Whiting of Tonganoxie, KS; and one great granddaughter, Oakley Doolittle, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his son, Richard (Ricky) Lee Whiting Jr. and his grandparents. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on March 2, 2024 from 12pm - 5pm at Wellington Lions Club, 5731 Highway 224, Wellington, MO 64097 for everyone to gather and share their favorite memories of Rick.
