Rickie Lee Darrigton

On January 7, 2026, our dearly beloved brother, Rickie, went home to be with the Lord. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana to Julius Darrington Sr. and Earnestine Ballard Darrington, both of whom proceeded him in death. He was the eleventh of twelve children, followed by two half sisters (Gloria and Carolyn Darrington) from his father's second marriage.

Rickie began his education at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Oakland, CA, where he participated in the ROTC Program. He then attended Laney Junior College, earning his associate degree. His final education was at Pikes Peak Community College (now Pikes Peak State College) in Colorado Springs from 1985 to 1992 where he earned an Associate degrees in Applied Science, Criminal Justice Patrol and Criminal Justice Security.

Rickie was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a Military Police Officer (SP) from December 27, 1972 to October 29, 1976, when he was honorably discharged.

After discharge he spent the next twenty-five years of his life proudly serving the citizens of Colorado, Springs, first as security at The Pioneers Museum then as a dispatcher/communication agent at the Colorado Springs Airport. Before permanently retiring he worked several years at Allied Security Services.

Rickie was an enthusiastic sports fan and a die hard supporter of the Oakland Raiders.

On March 1, 1984, Rickie married Alicia Woods and were proud parents of four boys: Rickie Lee Darrington, Jr.; Rickie Lee Darrington III; Carl Darrington and Anthony Darrington. They were proud grandparents of nine grandchildren: Marquez, Malici, Isis, Natia, Daniel, Aaliyah, Anaylis, DeAndre and Marley. He leaves behind six sisters, two half sisters, one brother and a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was proceeded in death by two brothers, Julius Darrington Jr. and James Darrington and two sisters, Evoria Sillers and Hazel Foster.

He will always be remembered for his kindness, dedication and the love he shared with his family and friends.

There will be a small private family viewing, with military honors at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, 1104 S. Circle Dr. on Thursday, Jan, 22nd at 4:00pm, before being laid to rest in the family cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana.
