Ricky, as he was affectionately known, was born on May 18, 1958 in Navasota, TX to Eleno M. And Clara Gonzalez Escalon. He was the 11th child of 13 children.
He graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1977. After graduation, Ricky worked many jobs but his true passion was cooking for his family and friends. He loved to watch his mother cook and learned his cooking skills from her.
Ricky never had children of his own so he poured all his love into the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that he had. Nothing made him happier than to cheer them on. Whether it be sports or academics, but mostly encouraged them to believe in themselves and believe in God.
“Big Rick” was always light on his feet. Never one to turn down a night of dancing at the Oasis Dance Hall in Breckenridge. Dancing and music were another passion of Rick’s. Most of all his true passion was his faith and prayed with anyone who wanted to pray. He enjoyed attending Bible study groups with his church family.
Ricky was easy going and never met a stranger. He had the gift of gab.
Ricky is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Mike and Dee and sisters, Brenda, Carmen, Mary Lou and Mary Helen.
He is survived by sisters, Theresa Valdez of Oregon, Sandy Escalon and Sylvia Contreras of Throckmorton, TX. Brothers John Escalon from Dumas, Tx, and Joe and Tony Escalon of Oklahoma City, OK.
Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas.
