I served with 1SG while he was my platoon sergeant in Kuwait in 1999 with 1/10 Cav. Just an all-around, selfless, tough, genuine good dude. One of the best platoon sergeants I ever had in the Army. His attitude and behavior exemplifies what it means to be an NCO. I learned a lot from him. I believe there is a special place in Heaven for folks like Ricky McGinnis.

Hey old man:)
So its the time of year that we all hate now. HOLIDAYS. Its just not the same without you anymore. I miss the times we all shared together. Thankgiving, Christmas and new years. I miss cooking with you during thanksgiving. We always made so much we have leftovers for like a week or two. Then getting a Christmas tree after. I will never forget our first Christmas in the new house. We bought a real tree and it was so big it scratch the ceiling. 5 years later we finally washed the ceiling off from the tree. This year we bought a real tree and yeah you can tell girls have hard times putting it up. So. I used your trick and stuffed socks in the base so it will stay up. :) also Christmas lights we don't have enough thus byear to go around the entire house but at least fills the front. I also won't forget the day you made us girls spend the weekend screing in hooks around the entire house. Funny thing is half of them are missing. I wish you could be here with the family and your addorable 5 grandchildren. Yes 5 now Laura just had her Babyboy. Its a zoo at home daddy and I'm sure you can see that from above. So much to tell you when I see you one day. I miss you daddy. Just want you home. Can't handle it anymore. People say it gets easier as the years go by but I think it just gets harder and harder as each day goes by. And not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Miss you daddy I love you so much.

Hey Top,
First I want to say how much you impacted my life, and from reading all of these post you touched many other lives through out your lifetime. Not a day goes by where we all are not thinking of you. I retired out of the Army, I remember you talking about how no matter what you were going to retire after our deployment even if they gave you CSM. The memories sure help on days like today, because no matter how much I cry or how sad I get a memory pops in my head and I can't help but to laugh. Like all the times you would smoke me at the house or when we kicked everyones butt in cornhole the night of your birthday party.

I can't believe it's been 5 years since Mr. Rick has passed. I keep thinking about all the memories that I have had with the McGinnis's and how he was such a wonderful father. I felt that I had a second dad and he made me feel like one of his own. He will never be forgotten and he's memory will be kept alive forever! Five years ago me and my family were told our dad has been killed in Iraq. i couldn't believe it and i still don't today. I believe he is on a very long mission. this day has changed our lives completely. we are still strong and always will be. we have some days where we break down and not want to speak to anyone and days we just try our best to make it through that day.
Daddy you are missed by many each and every day. Time has flew by fast, and the family has grown so much. Julia is married to Danny and has a son Aiden. Laura has a Girl name Ariyanna and a boy on the way. Melissa has two kids Isabell and Johnny. and me i have NO kids:) Mommy has a hand full with all there grand kids running around the house screaming. which brings me to the other day, i found my book where you wrote in and after reading your life dream i broke down in tears. you wrote you wanted to grow old and see your grand kids. Even though i know you are looking down watching every single moment that you can. i bet you laugh at us alot because how crazy that house can get.but you still love us. Mommy is doing good, but i just wish she could be great. Happy again, we are selling the house, we think getting away from this community will help mommy get out more often. it hurts me seeing her stranded in the house. so once we fix things up we hope someone buys it. Also cant forget about the muts. You only met Lucky and Lucy Well there is now louie and blondey. your probably thinking we are crazy having 4 dogs. Well lucky is not doing good. ever since you died he been having seizures. i have to give him meds twice a day. he is also losing so much weight. i dont know what else to do to cure him. i want to take him to the cemetary which i probably will soon. to see if it will help him grieve, he lays by the front door alot and seems like he waits for you to get home, so maybe taking him to you is the best solution. He misses his owner but dont worry im taking care of him.
so i am now a senior in high school. and almost the big 18. i will be graduating early this year. Its sucks knowing you wont be sitting there with the family watching me walk across the stage to receive my diploma. but you will be in my heart always and forever. i know you are proud of me. every day i tell myself never give up. after the summer i plan on going to college to get my degree in nursing. and maybe have a side career of photographer. i Love taking pictures. I wish you were here to see me do all of this.
well i have much more to say to you but im gonna stop here. i love and miss you tons and i will see you one day.
Love you always Nina

Hey brother, I have a tough decision to make. You know what it is so I don't need to blast over the net. Not as bad as when we crammed my van with all like 11 of us after the Toby Keith concert when your car broke down. Nevertheless, even it's been four years since we spoke.

To the McGinnis family,
I am so sorry for your lost. I served with Mac back in Ft. Hood in 93-94. He was in 1/67 AR and I was in 3/67 AR. He was a great Tanker, mentor, and a great NCO. Right before we deployed to Iraq in 2006, I bumped into him at Darnall Army Hospital in Hood. It was great seeing and talking to him again. You are missed.

Out of all the NCO's I have ever worked for or have had the privledge to meet First SGT Mcginnis is among the greatest he was always there for all his troops and helped me on several occasions with many problems we all knew we could go to him for anything. He will always be in my memories and he will always remain a hero in my eyes as well as my families eyes. We all love and miss you dearly top. You all still remain in my daily thoughts and prayers.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF FIRST SGT. RICKY L. MCGINNIS I RESPECTFULLY GIVE MY CONDOLENCES AND SORROW. I AM GLAD HE WAS WILLING TO PROTECT BOTH MY COUNTRY AND ME. I THANK HIS FAMILY FOR ALLOWING HIM TO DO THIS. YOUR SACRIFICE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. ON JANUARY 22 MY SON-IN-LAW WAS KILLED IN IRAQ BY AN IED. HE FELT THAT IF HE DIDN'T GO STOP THEM OVER THERE HIS FAMILY WOULDN'T BE SAFE GOING TO THE MALL OR WAL-MART OR WHEREVER WE WANTED TO GO. NICK WAS IN 2/7 CAV AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. HE LEFT BEHIND A WIFE AND NEWBORN SON TO RETURN TO HIS DUTY STATION. Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Dear Carl, Tina and Family and Friends, It is so hard to read such tragic stories of loss from this war, but I think that your loved one and each and every man and woman serving the USA are true heroes, selflessly, bravely fighting for each of our freedom and our democracy in this great country. May God bless and hold each of you close during this time and always. May you find comfort in knowing that so many of us love our military men and women, though we do not know them personally. We also love the families, as they must sacrifice, sometimes ultimately, as their brave loved one goes forward to battle. You all are in our thoughts and prayers! Much love from Jeff, Monica, J.P. and Olivia Hyde
