RIETTE MUGLESTON Obituary
FEBRUARY 14, 1937 - JULY 26, 2023
Albuquerque - Riette Lewinson Mugleston, born on February 14, 1937, died suddenly of natural causes on July 26, 2023. Born in Albuquerque, she attended Albuquerque High and UNM. She was a well-known kindergarten teacher and educator in the Santa Fe Public schools for 25 years. Riette's positive and energetic nature was infectious, and she always had a kind word for everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Leo Lewinson, her sister DoAnn Jasper, her ex-husband Norman Mugleston, and her longtime partner, Charles Anderson.
She is survived by her children, Leslie Porter(John), Jeff Mugleston, and Cheryl Mugleston (Scot). Additionally, she leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Amanda and JJ Porter, and her godson Lucas Townsend-Weiss. Riette's bright presence will be deeply missed by her cousins, nieces, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Sholom in Santa Fe, NM at 11 am on Sunday, August 6. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either Kitchen Angels, Inc or Growing Up New Mexico.

Forever loved and missed by our family in La Cieneguilla Pueblo. Our Beloved Riette Mugleston will always be in our hearts. Riette would greet with a large smile every time our children entered the Sweeney Elementary School classrooms without hesitation. We love you dearly, Mrs. Mugleston to the moon and heavens above. I went to college with Riette at the University of Utah; and we were sisters in Delta Gamma sorority. While thumbing through the DG magazine, I read where she had passed. I'm sorry to lose this special friend even though we lost track of each other.
I'll never forget her kindness, her smile, her friendship, her loyalty.
My sincere sympathy to her family. I'm sure she will be missed. God bless you all.

Ms. Mugleston was my kindergarten teacher at Sweeney Elementary in the early 90's. Being a student in her class were some of my first memories. I can always remember her being very kind and patient with me. As one of her students, I had nothing but great memories of her. My deepest condolences to her family, she was a great woman.

What wonderful memories I have of your mom... laughing, shaking her head , and that assuring pat on the back. I had the privilege of working with Riette at Sweeney Elementary and serving on her management team. What a joy, and privilege it was to work with her. The genuine love she had for all the students of Sweeney was truly a blessing to our entire community! Fly with the angels Riette ...and to her family ...may the love and wonderful memories get you through this difficult time!

Ms. Mugleston was my kindergarden teacher at Sweeney Elementary back in 1989. I have fond memories of her and am forever grateful for everything she taught me. May you rest in peace thank you for the difference you made in mine and so many other kids lives!

It was always such a joy to see Riette. She was so cheerful and kind that she brightened every space. You could also have deep and meaningful conversations with her about such issues as children's education. She will be missed.

Our beloved Riette Mugleston will always have a special place in our hearts. Many good memories with her and our children at the Sweeney's Elementary School. Now, our children are grown up and have their own children. Riettes' good teaching and instruction had inspired our children to complete thier education and dreams come true. My condolences to Leslie, Jeff, and Cheryl. I was a colleague of your mother, and I met both of your lovely parents when I taught Leslie. She became such a wealth of knowledge needed to do my job. When I would see her, I was happy because I knew she was loving and caring and funny. She was a joy. I'm so sorry to hear about her passing. Tears rolled as soon as I saw her name in the obituaries. We were all lucky to have know Riette.

When I saw Riette was born on Valentine's Day, I thought, "How appropriate!". Riette was so sweet and always had a smile for everyone, and even though I only saw her a couple of times a year, she always greeted me as a close friend, and I loved talking to her and hearing about her life, and of course, her laughter. She was kind. And she especially loved, worried about, and loved to spend time with her family, all so dear to her. When I remember our conversations, I see these oases of happiness. I feel truly blessed to have known her. What joy she brought to life!
