Chesapeake, VA – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rigoberto "Bob" Cedeño on Monday, March 23, 2026, a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished Pepaw. Born on November 1, 1949, in beautiful Puerto Rico, Bob lived a life characterized by dedication to his family and service to his country.

Bob proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, embodying the spirit of duty and sacrifice during his two tours. He was a proud recipient of the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy "E" Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal, among other recognitions. Following his honorable service, he embarked on a career at the Ford Plant in Norfolk, Virginia, where he worked diligently in the paint department. Later, he found fulfillment as a school bus driver for the City of Chesapeake, where he touched the lives of countless children with his kindness, sense of humor and reliability. Never one to shy away from hard work, he carried this work ethic into every fabric of his life, always providing for his family.

Always with a smile, daddy balanced working long hours and spending time with his family whenever and however he could. Pepaw enjoyed helping his lovely wife tend to their park-esque yard – cultivating a lush garden that included over 20 hydrangeas, camelia bushes, and flowering trees. You could always find Bob and Harriett welcoming the day with a hot cup of coffee on their back porch soaking up the antics of many species of birds. His beloved Daisy Mae was never far away and more often than not could be found curled up on his lap or helping him bring a smile to Memaw's face. Whenever a helping hand was needed, "Bob the Builder" was always there with a trusty roll of duct tape, super glue, and a bag of zip ties. He was always there with a master plan for successfully solving any building issues, even if it was more than slightly questionable! Daddy loved vacations, family game nights, and was obsessed with classic westerns. No matter the time of day, you can count on the TV cycling through Turner Classic Movie Channel – highlighting a movie that he had seen countless times but still needed on full volume. He certainly made sure to share his love and passion for cinema with his grandchildren. A day spent in Corolla lounging in his beach chair, enjoying the ripest watermelon and laughing along with his grandchildren playing in the sand or splashing in the waves was a highlight of every summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Cedeño Santiago and Carmen Santiago. Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Harriett Cedeño, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He is also survived by his four beloved children: Michelle Edelheit (Adam), Richard Avant (Aimee), Maria Lapins, and Amber Diffley (Christopher). His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Rachal Weaver (Kyle), Jacob Edelheit (Brittany), Caleb, Elijah, and Willow Diffley, Sebastiaan Avant, Isaiah Lapins, and great-grandson Parker Weaver. Bob also leaves behind his dear sister, Anna Elba Vasquez, along with several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.

In keeping with Bob's wishes, a private service will be held among those closest to him. His family is deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to them during this tender time. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia's Chesapeake Office. Condolences and cherished memories may be shared at www.vacremationsociety.com.

Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Hickory Manor Clubhouse, 436 Cavendish Way, Chesapeake, VA 23322. A private inurnment with full military honors will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA
