Rita J. Bassett

1933 - 2026

Rita Jean (Long) Bassett, 92, of Washington Township, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, in QLS-Apollo. Born Aug. 28, 1933, in Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late Paul K. and Edna (Kline) Long Sr. Rita was a graduate of Vandergrift High School. She grew up in Armstrong County and moved to Virginia Beach for several years. Rita was employed by the Virginia Beach School District as a cafeteria manager and bus driver, from which she retired in 1987. She also held a position on the Virginia Beach School Board. Rita moved back to Washington Township in the year 2000. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Apollo. Rita enjoyed traveling, fishing, crocheting, and bingo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quetin D. Bassett, in 1991; and brothers, Paul and Jerry Long. Rita is survived by her children, Cindy D. (Gary) Miller of Avonmore, Michael (Gisela) Bassett of Jeannette, James (Janet) Bassett of Slauda, VA, Kim "Bear" (Cindy) Bassett of Mt. Airy, NC; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; family members; and friends.
