Rita Young Bennett Pruett September 18, 1934 – November 13, 2025 Rita Young Bennett Pruett, 91, from Anniston, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Rita's journey was marked by love, resilience, and devotion to her family and friends. Her greatest joy was her family, and she dedicated herself to caring for and supporting them throughout her life. Those who knew Rita often described her as the consummate hostess. She had a remarkable gift for hospitality and was always eager to make others feel special. Rita delighted in sharing her talents for baking, cooking, and entertaining, especially with her children and grandchildren. Her creativity and artistry extended to her beautiful fruit carvings and decor for family gatherings. Rita embodied true Southern grace, welcoming everyone with warmth and generosity, and carried herself with a quiet elegance that left a lasting impression on all who met her. Rita was the matriarch of her family and an active member of the Anniston community. A lifetime member of Central Presbyterian Church, she was deeply involved with the Youth Group when her daughters were young. She also held a lifetime membership at the Elks Lodge in Anniston. Rita loved music, the beach, and playing a variety of sports, and she remained active throughout her life, competing in the Senior Olympics in San Antonio, Texas, in the 1990s. She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Bennett McKenzie (Ken), Kim Bennett Jenkins, and Tracy Bennett Smith (Steve); grandchildren: Kenneth McKenzie (Barbara Jean), Mashay Wood (Seth), Jerrica Sadler (Jonathan), Sonny Crisp (Sam), Sterling Jenkins, Bennett Smith (Kathleen), and Cat Smith; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, eight nieces and nephews and her sister, Edna Collins (Tom). Rita was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, James Langston "Sonny" Bennett, and her second husband, Sion Augusta "S.A" Pruett. As well as her five siblings.
